FAQ

Q: Do you charge for estimates?

A: No, our estimates are free. Estimates will usually include a couple of initial concept drawings along with the pricing. However, additional design work and meetings may be charged for. Any additional fees will always be explained to the client before more detailed design work is performed.

Q: How long before you have the estimate for my project?

A: Usually within a couple of days. Sometimes it can take a little longer due to the nature and size of the project.

Q: Is there a job too small?

A: Not really. However, keep in my mind that you are considering hiring a custom cabinet maker for your project. It may not always be cost effective or fit the budget to tackle a smaller project. Some smaller projects can take as much time to plan, design, and fabricate as larger projects due to their complexity in detail. Also, the time it takes to select and gather materials for a three foot bathroom Pullman or a seven foot long double vanity can sometimes consume the same amount of time. The quote is free and I let the client decide.

Q: Is there a job too big?

A: Not necessarily: We can accomplish almost any project. However, we have made a conscious decision to keep Sleenhof Custom Woodworking “small” in an effort to better serve the client. There are any many advantages to this business approach but it can limit us in how soon we can begin the next project and how long will it may take us to complete the project. The final decision usually comes down to the client’s flexibility in his/her required lead time and schedule demands.

Q: How long before you can start our home improvement project?

A: This will depend on Sleenhof Custom Woodworking’s workload but the average is about a 6-8 week lead time. Please keep in mind that this means until the first piece of wood is cut. It usually takes a couple of meetings to plan, design, and select materials before fabrication can start. This preparation will take place during the time leading up to fabrication so waiting may not seem so long as it initially sounds. Please check with our calendar.

Q: Do you do stairs and railings?

A: No, our primary focus is cabinetry, fireplaces, wainscoting/paneling, and decorative trim.

Q: Can you install wood flooring?

A: No, we are not a flooring company.

Q: How can I pay for product and services?

A: We currently accept personal, business, and cashier’s checks. We will also take cash payments. We do not accept credit cards at this time.

Q: What are your payment terms?

A: For most projects it is a 10% deposit at the time proposal/contract is agreed upon, 40% payment when shop work begins, and 50% final balance payment upon completion of the project. With some larger projects such as a kitchen, a payment schedule will be outlined in the contract.
